The Murray is host to exciting events throughout the year. Join the fun of music and food and wine festivals, sporting events and art expos.

Head to Mildura in March for the Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival, featuring events such as Opera by the Lock on the banks of the Murray River and Music under the Stars at the dramatic Perry Sandhills. In September the Mildura Country Music Festival presents Australia’s biggest showcase of independent country music artists. The Mildura Jazz and Wine Festival in November combines the best of Australian modern and traditional jazz with the opportunity to sample the region’s fine wines.

The Riverboats Jazz, Food and Wine Festival, held each February in Echuca-Moama, is another celebration of jazz and blues, enjoyed with great food and wine alongside the Murray River. For a change of pace, catch the Club Marine Southern 80 in February, the largest waterskiing race in the world, which attracts over 40,000 spectators.

In December, try your luck at the Cod Opening Classic, Australia's largest inland fresh water fishing competition or head to Albury Wodonga for the Murray Masters Golf Pro Am, a PGA sanctioned tournament held over five days which attracts both international players and local professionals.

Tumbling from its source in the High Country, the Murray is one of the world's great rivers, flowing through river red gum forests, wetlands teeming with
birdlife, rich agricultural land and busy river towns. Here is your chance to discover the charm of the paddle steamer era, when the Murray was a vital
transport system, linking the inland to the coast. Activities abound - pick fruit, sample wine, hire a houseboat or try catching the famous Murray Cod.

The Murray is also famous for its many high quality golf courses. Explore the Murray from the paddle steamer capital of Australia, Echuca-Moama. From
here you can take a cruise or hire a houseboat - paddle steamers and riverboats still pull into its historic wharf.

Bask on the sunny shores of Lake Mulwala, or visit Corowa, with its colourful history associated with its role as a river port and the centre of agriculture in
the region.

Albury-Wodonga, roughly half way between Sydney and Melbourne, is a great base from which to explore the whole region. The Alps, goldfields, heritage
towns, river valley and wineries are all within easy reach. For a geographical contrast, the rural lands around picturesque Deniliquin, home of Merino wool,
are worth a visit. But wherever you go, the Murray River will never be far away.
